The Ledger
The Blood Ledger is a secret ledger containing the names of every banker, hedge fund manager, financier, executive, and financial architect who profited from the 2008 subprime mortgage crisis while millions lost their homes, livelihoods, and futures.
The Discovery
Years before the financial collapse, Jules A. Blanchery, a brilliant financial analyst working in Geneva, began noticing irregular financial flows, hidden transfers, and patterns of transactions that made no economic sense. As he dug deeper, he uncovered a vast network of off-book deals, secret agreements, and coordinated financial manipulation stretching across the world's largest banks and financial institutions.
The Documentation
Convinced that these transactions were building toward an inevitable global collapse, Blanchery began secretly documenting every connection, every suspicious transfer, and every individual involved. What started as an analyst's investigation became an exhaustive ledger of those responsible for engineering and profiting from one of the greatest financial disasters in modern history.
The Collapse
When the subprime mortgage market finally collapsed in 2008, Blanchery realized his worst fears had come true. The institutions responsible escaped accountability while millions of ordinary people lost their homes, livelihoods, and futures. Shortly afterward, he disappeared without a trace.
Shard Returns
Years later, in a dystopian London ruled by financial institutions and corporate power, Blanchery resurfaces under a new identity: Shard, the enigmatic leader of a decentralized resistance movement. His first act is to upload the Blood Ledger onto the blockchain, making it permanent, uncensorable, and impossible to erase.
The Zombie Bankers
But by then, the financial elite are no longer entirely human. Those who embraced and perpetuated the predatory financial system have become Zombie Bankers. Their transformation is not the result of a virus or supernatural curse, but of systemic corruption itself. The financial system infects those consumed by greed, power, and exploitation, slowly stripping away their humanity until they become undead servants of an endless machine of debt, control, and profit. Unlike traditional zombies, they do not spread their condition through bites or disease. Their infection is ideological and institutional. They hide in plain sight among ordinary citizens, behind tailored suits, glass towers, trading floors, boardrooms, and government offices, continuing to feed the system that transformed them.
The Campaign
The Blood Ledger exposes them all. As Shard, players embark on a relentless campaign across London's financial underworld, hunting down every name on the ledger. Each Zombie Banker destroyed weakens the invisible empire that has manipulated markets, governments, and societies for centuries.
The Oracle
At the top of the Blood Ledger stands The Oracle—the world's first banker, who has survived for over five hundred years by feeding on greed, debt, and the perpetual expansion of the financial system. To destroy him, Shard must first eliminate every name on the Blood Ledger and bring an end to the undead empire built on the ashes of the 2008 financial crisis.

He weaponizes Shard's own DeFi protocol to build Babylon, then disappears when Shard collapses the architecture from within.

Kai is the player protagonist of Disrupt or Die: Ghostchain. His life becomes entangled with the supernatural forces of the GhostChain, and he discovers that his body may be the key to whatever is crossing from the digital afterlife into the physical world — forcing Shard, Joran and himself into a battle across two realities.
